چکیده

Virus-borne auxiliary genes have been demonstrated to influence their hosts’ characteristics and flexibility, resulting in an elevated ability withstand diverse conditions competition. However, the research on soil viral community its influencing factors is not extensive. The effects of bacterium-phage co-evolution metal contaminated environment yet be fully understood. In our research, numerous with conserved functional residues/motifs working detoxifying heavy metals were pinpointed virome recovered from 58 metagenomic samples mineral area, including tellurite resistance (e.g., terC , terD ), copper copC, copA arsenate arsC ). Moreover, proteins involved key processes nutrient uptake metabolism, cellular function, polysaccharides production biomineralization also detected, which may contribute response microbial stress. Our showed that viruses helped hosts acquire novel metal-resistance abilities through horizontal gene transfer (HGT) during adaptation challenging metal-rich environments. This was evidenced by high Codon adaption index (CAI) values across metal-resistance-related genes. study has advanced understanding virus-host interplay within soils.

Aerobic uranium (VI) bioprecipitation by metal-resistant bacteria isolated from radionuclide- and metal-contaminated subsurface soils.

In this study, the immobilization of toxic uranium [U(VI)] mediated by the intrinsic phosphatase activities of naturally occurring bacteria isolated from contaminated subsurface soils was examined. The phosphatase phenotypes of strains belonging to the genera, Arthrobacter, Bacillus and Rahnella, previously isolated from subsurface soils at the US Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge Field Re...

Heavy metal concentration of soils affected by Zn-smelter activities in the Qeshm Island, Iran

In this study, concentrations of heavy metals in soils around a Zn-smelter in Qeshm island, Iran, are investigated. Calculated geoaccumulation index (Igeo), contamination factor (Cf), and contamination degree (Cdeg) values indicate surface soil contamination by toxic metals (As, Cd, Pb, and Zn). The results also indicate that most contaminated areas are located in the vicinity of the smelter an...

Biosurfactant-facilitated remediation of metal-contaminated soils.

Bioremediation of metal-contaminated wastestreams has been successfully demonstrated. Normally, whole cells or microbial exopolymers are used to concentrate and/or precipitate metals in the wastestream to aid in metal removal. Analogous remediation of metal-contaminated soils is more complex because microbial cells or large exopolymers do not move freely through the soil. The use of microbially...

Plantesoil interactions in metal contaminated soils

The legacy of industrialization has left many soils contaminated. However, soil organisms and plant communities can thrive in spite of metal contamination and, in some cases, metabolize and help in remediation. The responses of plants and soil organisms to contamination are mutually dependent and dynamic. Plantesoil feedbacks are central to the development of any terrestrial community; they are...

Chemical Fixation of Heavy Metal-Contaminated Soils

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been working toward the establishment of treatment standards for contaminated soils. The Office of Emergency and Remedial Response is in the process of developing and carrying out a plan to address the data needs for establishing the Pest Demonstrated Available Technologies (BDAT) for Superfund soils. The BDAT program is divided into phases. Ph...
